National placemaker Muse and Stockport Council have the green light to take forward 4 Stockport Exchange, following a Stockport Council Planning and Highways Regulation Committee meeting on Thursday (15 August).

This follows, Muse being announced as delivery and investment partner to deliver a £500 million regeneration of Wythenshawe Civic.

4 Stockport Exchange will comprise 60,000 sq ft of office space with ground floor opportunities available for local amenities, as well as an accessible and landscaped railway station and new public square.

The council and Muse worked with architect Sheppard Robson to update the approved masterplan of the business hub with 1, 2 and 3 Stockport Exchange all now complete.

Savills, Manchester, led the planning process for Stockport Exchange.

4 Stockport Exchange has been designed to achieve BREEAM ‘Excellent’, EPC “A” ratings and WELL Gold accreditation.

The remaining phases will include an additional 185,000 sq ft of office space and potentially up to 100 residential apartments in the scheme’s final phase.

Stockport Exchange boasts local transport links minutes from the new transport interchange.

The development is central to the £1 billion regeneration programme currently being delivered across the town, with the creation of a brand-new neighbourhood led by Stockport MDC.

Max King, project director at Muse, said: “Getting the green light for the next and final phases is the last piece in the puzzle for the blossoming business community that we’ve proudly created in the town.

“Stockport continues to prove popular with growing and established businesses looking for something a bit different that’s outside of Manchester but still highly commutable.

“Stockport’s wider regeneration and ongoing renaissance is only adding to this, making it a popular hub to work and live in. ”

Councillor Colin MacAlister, cabinet member for economy and regeneration at Stockport Council, said: “Stockport Exchange has been a popular choice for a diverse range of businesses and it’s good news that we now have future phases in the pipeline, to attract even more businesses, as well as creating employment opportunities and a range of good quality amenities.

“This latest milestone is a significant achievement with the potential to also provide much needed homes in a highly accessible location.”
