Willmott Dixon has been appointed to build a £31.5 million leisure centre in Bedfordshire.
Appointed by Central Bedfordshire Council the company will construct the Leighton Buzzard Leighton Leisure and Community Centre in Leighton Buzzard.
The project is planned to start in October 2024 and finish in summer 2026.
The current Tiddenfoot Leisure Centre will remain open during construction, which stands as an integral part of Cedars Upper School and for residents to have continuous access to leisure facilities.
The new leisure centre will include modern sport facilities community amenities and energy saving design features such as:
- Large health and fitness area (gym)
- Increased pool space with an eight lane 25 metre pool
- Learner pool and a confidence pool
- Electric car charging points to meet the the councils carbon-zero by 2030 goal
The appointment follows the company stating it is confident of a return to profit in 2024, posting a record £3 billion orderbook in its latest financial results.
In the past month Willmott Dixon has been appointed to deliver a £11 million hospital refurbishment in brighton, deliver a new Student Village at Staffordshire University and build a £60 million net zero college in Wales.
