Based at Peel Ports Alexandra Dock, the development took 12 months to build, designed by architects Chetwoods to handle and store various commodities.

The 240,000 sq ft warehouse is the length of five full size football pitches (400 metres).

Works included the installation of 6,500 piles, 729 PCC push wall panels weighing over 4800 tonnes together with over 40,000m³ of concrete poured.

The Alexandra Dock Multi-User Warehouse (MUW) also features:

  • 300 metres of dedicated quayside
  • Cranes for vessel discharge
  • Fast HGV turnaround times
  • Vehicle wash bay, separate office block
  • Welfare facilities and weighbridges and marshalling cabin

Glencar managing director midlands and north Pete Goodman said: “Ports serve as a critical part of the UK Supply Chain and multi-user facilities of this type contribute towards the continuation of the import and export of vital goods and enhance the port’s warehousing and distribution capabilities.

“This development aims to optimise supply chains, reduce road miles, and provide substantial cost, carbon, and congestion benefits, solidifying Liverpool’s role in the UK’s logistics network.”

This follows Glencar’s appointment to construct a new 62,413 sq ft industrial warehouse in Worcester, last week.

The contractor was appointed by property developer Stoford to the project, which is now under construction for national foodservice company Bidfood at Stoford’s Worcester Six business park development.

The project began in April, and is expected to finish during Q4 2024 (28 weeks).

It is set to feature:

  • Infrastructure works
  • Installation of an attenuation tank and photovoltaic panels
  • Construction of a POD office, service yard and car parking spaces.

Goodman noted: “We’ve assembled a first-class team on this project and look forward to delivering an excellent outcome to further extend the scale and scope of the facilities at Worcester Six Business Park which is one of the region’s premier logistics parks and a real success story.”
