Stantec has appointed a new managing director to leverage the firm’s expansion to unlock growth across the UK and Ireland (UK&I).
Brian Yates has been appointed as Stantec’s new managing director for the UK and Ireland.
Yates joins the engineering, architecture, and environmental consultancy with 30 years of global industry experience.
He has specialised in project management and environmental services, having led large environmental assessments and consultation efforts across his career.
In his previous role, he served as vice president for impact assessment and community engagement at Canadian civil engineering firm SNC-Lavalin.
Hailing from Nova Scotia, Yates has worked for Stantec for more than six years, as vice president, regional leader for British Columbia.
In May, the Canadian design and engineering firm expanded its UK presence, acquiring UK counterpart Hydrock for an undisclosed sum, increasing Stantec’s workforce in the UK by more than 30 per cent.
Yates said: “Stantec is the most authentically values-driven place I’ve ever worked, and I want to ensure every team member is empowered to realise their potential.
“Having built my career in North America and Asia, I will draw on my experience to drive collaboration between the UK&I and the rest of Stantec.”
He was appointed to the role by Stantec executive vice president and Global COO Cath Schefer.
Schefer added: “Bringing the best ideas and expertise to the UK&I from regions around the world is a crucial part of Stantec’s client offering.
“Brian has an incredible track record in harnessing market opportunities and delivering strategic growth.
“The UK&I has incredible growth potential in the current market environment, and I’m looking forward to seeing Brian use his wider global experience in this exciting new chapter for Stantec.”
