GRAHAM consortium to deliver 5,400 student beds in Manchester

University of Manchester (UoM) has named its preferred bidder and delivery partner for the redevelopment of its student campus in the city.

Viridis, a consortium of Equitix, GRAHAM, and Derwent FM, has been selected to bring forward the Fallowfield Campus redevelopment under a Design, Build, Finance and Operate (DBFO) model. 

The consortium will deliver modern purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA), as part of a phased redevelopment approved by Manchester City Council in January. 

Viridis consortium roles 

  • Equitix – infrastructure investor, developer and manager 
  • GRAHAM – equity and construction  
  • Derwent FM – facilities management 

On completion, the campus will offer up to 5,400 beds by replacing older accommodation on site and delivering 3,300 upgraded bedrooms. 

Owens Park, Oak House, and Woolton Hall, near the university’s main buildings, have all been earmarked for redevelopment. 

Demolition of Owens Park Tower and surrounding buildings is ongoing and due to complete early in 2025.

GRAHAM CEO, Andrew Bill, said: “GRAHAM is delighted to be working in partnership with the University of Manchester to deliver its vision for the Fallowfield Residences Redevelopment Programme. 

“Together, we will focus on creating an exemplar sustainable campus that will enhance the experience of the University’s next generation of students.” 

The university and consortium will now work to develop the DBFO, with the aim of reaching financial close by summer next year.
