Muse’s plans have been approved for a £100 million-plus regeneration of the Longfield Centre Site in Prestwich, Bury.
Bury Council’s Planning Control Committee approved the plans on Tuesday (23 July).
Muse is working with the council to deliver the scheme, as part of its Prestwich Regeneration LLP joint venture.
The plans aim to deliver spaces for new local shops, public spaces, community facilities, and new homes at the site off Bury New Road.
Local input helped shape the plans following two stages of consultation.
Final plans include:
– A community hub and library
– A new village square
– A market hall
– Flexible retail and leisure spaces, including a new gym
– Landscaped outdoor and green spaces
– a new travel hub, with EV charging points, cycle storage and parcel lockers
– 200 new homes, including affordable homes
Bury Council leader, councillor Eamonn O’Brien, said: “These are truly transformative plans which will reshape Prestwich village – from new housing to shops, leisure facilities and a better living environment.
“Regeneration of our town centres is a crucial part of ensuring that the whole of our borough can prosper and thrive for many generations to come, and we’re looking forward to working with our partners to bring the new Prestwich to life.”
Senior Development Manager at Muse, Joe Stockton, said: “The overhaul of the Longfield Centre will create a new beating heart for the village packed with community facilities, spaces for local businesses to thrive, and much-needed new homes.”
