Skanska signs £105m MEP services contract in London

Skanska has signed a contract for £105 million to provide construction and mechanical and electrical engineering services for the redevelopment of 7 Millbank in London.

The firm signed the contract with Baola Properties Limited c/o Old Park Lane Management Limited.

Skanska will lead the construction of a new nine-storey office building with two basement levels. 

Construction is set to begin July this year and is expected to finish January 2027.

The design and build of approximately 12,100 sqm flexible workspace will include reconstruction of the façade.

7 Millbank, located in Westminster, was originally constructed as British American Tobacco headquarters (HQ) between 1913 and 1915 and is currently being used as part of the parliamentary estate. 

Make Architects designed the redevelopment which obtained planning permission in 2022, with Gardiner & Theobald serving as project managers and Waterman providing civil and structural engineering, highways, transport, waste management consultancy services.

The original stone facade was deconstructed and stored before being rebuilt into the new structure to maintain and enhance the building’s character.

Demolition began in 2022, following the appointment of McGee to deliver the demolition and enabling works on its 128,000-sq-ft office development.

The building is targeting BREEAM Outstanding, WELL Platinum and Design for Performance to secure a Nabers 5* accreditation.
