AECOM, Arup, KPMG, Mott MacDonald, Stantec, Turner & Townsend, and WSP/Binnies have all been awarded contracts under the water company’s Professional Services Framework, which spans the next regulatory cycle, AMP8 (April 2025 to March 2030).

What is AMP?

The purpose of Asset Management Plan periods, set by industry regulator Ofwat, is to increase efficiency and service levels within the sector via capital programmes.

In AMP8, water suppliers are facing both environmental and regulatory challenges, including net zero by 2030, reducing sewage spills, and to mitigate the effects of climate change.

The framework, which runs for an initial five years with the option to extend by another three and allows Southern Water to access technical advisory services, is broken down into three lots:

  • Asset Management support services
  • Programme and Project Management support services
  • Technical and Engineering support services

The water company said awards for its Capital Delivery and Network Services frameworks were still to be decided.

Southern Water head of procurement, Stephen Coleman, said: “I am delighted to announce these seven Professional Services partners who I am confident will be of huge support to Southern Water as we embark on an absolutely crucial time of positive change for the UK water sector.

“From identifying and designing new nature-based solutions to improve water quality, reduce storm overflows and boost biodiversity, to spearheading best practices in hydraulic modelling, water recycling and digital innovation, projects within this framework will help future-proof our network and enhance our communities across the region.”
