Watkin Jones has secured planning permission for a new 484-bed purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) scheme in Bristol.
Bristol City Council approved the development on Malago Road, Bedminster, this week – one of the final projects of the Bedminster Green Regeneration Area.
Formerly an engineering works and foundry, the disused brownfield site will deliver three managed buildings ranging from six to 10 storeys in height for use by University of Bristol.
Broader benefits to the local community include the construction of a new public space and upgrading highway infrastructure.
Designed to support the group’s ESG strategy, the scheme will aim for BREEAM ‘Excellent’ and WiredScore ‘Gold’ ratings as well as an EPC score of ‘B’.
The company is expected to partner with management firm Fresh to deliver 24-hour on-site services for students.
Watkin Jones returned to profit in the first six months of FY2024 following a restructure.
Ben Wrighton, head of planning at Watkin Jones, said: “We are very excited to announce planning approval for our second project in one of Bristol’s key regeneration areas and our third active project within the city.
“Our commitment to providing high-quality, and well-managed purpose-built student accommodation will in part address the significant growing demand from the University of Bristol.
“We look forward to continuing our efforts to meet this growing need alongside the City Council and the local communities.”
