Morgan Sindall Construction has been appointed to six healthcare sector projects in the county of Essex, with a total value of £60 million.
Two key aspects of the new-build and refurbishment works include a Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) in Pitsea and construction of the Southend Elective Surgical Hub, on behalf of the Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust.
The existing Pitsea Leisure Centre will be demolished to make way for the CDC, which will include an MRI and CT scanning suite, X-ray machines, a pharmacy, ultrasound, consultancy rooms, phlebotomy area, as well as a library and sporting facilities.
Part of a government initiative after the pandemic, this will be one of around 30 new centres in the UK.
While at Southend University Hospital, the tier one contractor will install two new surgical theatres as part of the elective surgery hub contract.
All six projects were procured via the new ProCure23 (P23) framework, part of the Crown Commercial Service CWAS2 procurement framework.
P23 has an expected cumulative spend of £9 billion during its four-year lifespan and it builds on three previous iterations of ProCure that have delivered more than £10 billion of projects for the NHS.
Morgan Sindall is also working on site at Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford and Thurrock Community Hospital for the Trust, via the NHS Shared Business Services (NHS SBS) framework.
Peter Whitmore, MD for Morgan Sindall in the East, said: “These improvements, across a number of important healthcare facilities in the county, will bring a wide range of valuable health and wellbeing benefits for communities in Essex.
“This will range from helping to speed up diagnosis within local settings and supercharging Southend’s surgical capabilities.”
