Ealing Council has appointed the firm to deliver 188 homes in Acton.
The homes will be built across three buildings of four, eight and 20 storeys respectively, reported ActonW3.
For each:
- The four-storey will include six large flats.
- The eight-storey will include 71 flats for older adults, at London Living Rent.
- The 20-storey will include 111 flats, 90 of which will be shared ownership.
The project is a part of the redevelopment of the Steyne estate.
With the police station close by, the site will sit between Lexden Road to the southwest and Steyne Road to the southeast.
The tallest residential building will face Steyne Road, and the eight-storey will be on Lexden Road, with the four storey to the north of it.
McLaren will also deliver a 78sq m community space that will be shared with the residents in the neighbouring Rufford and Moreton Towers.
On the Job
Other firms involved with the scheme include:
- Karakusevic Carson Architects.
- Beyond Carbon.
Karakusevic Carson Architects designed the plans for the project for the council’s housing company Broadway Living, reported Housing Today.
McLaren is working with Beyond Carbon to build 71 homes to the Passivhaus standard.
The firm aims to reduce energy consumption by an estimated 70% with these homes.
Funding
The Greater London Authority has invested £16 million in funding to the project, as part of Ealing’s £99 million grant for its homebuilding programme, reported Around Ealing.
Barbour ABI values the scheme at £53 million, according to Construction Enquirer.
Other schemes in Ealing’s programme include 84 homes for the former Northolt Grange community centre, and 26 flats for Sussex Crescent, Northolt.
Work began on all schemes in March, and is expected to be completed in late 2024 and early 2026.
McLaren and Ealing Council were approached for comment.
