NHS Highland appoints firm as managing contractor of Lochaber and Caithness facilities.
As the Principal Supply Chain Partner, Balfour Beatty will lead the design and construction of:
- the new hospital in Fort William.
- the refurbishment of Caithness General in Wick
An investment of £160 million across five-to-seven years has been put toward rural general hospitals in the Highlands, which includes these two projects.

In the construction of the hospitals, Balfour Beatty will be working with:
- Keppie Design
- Horner + MacLennan
- Hulley & Kirkwood
- Mott MacDonald
- Buchan Associates
The firm previously worked with NHS Highland on delivering new hospitals in Broadford and Aviemore, and a National Treatment Centre in Inverness.
“We have a successful track record of working with Balfour Beatty and this relationship is further strengthened by this appointment, ” said NHS Highland’s senior responsible officer for the redesigns, Louise Bussell.
“We look forward to working closely with Balfour Beatty and local communities over the next few years in delivering innovative, sustainable health and social care facilities in Lochaber and Caithness.”
