Camden Council has granted planning permission for the real estate investment firm’s O2 Centre Masterplan, part of a £1 billion investment in the borough.
The new mixed-use development, earmarked for a 14-acre site off Finchley Road in Camden, is understood to be the ‘largest planning application in the borough since Kings Cross’.
Landsec aims to deliver 1,800 new homes, alongside 180,000 sq ft of retail, leisure and community space, on an under-utilised car park behind the O2 retail centre.
The plans recently underwent redesign due to London mayor Sadiq Khan’s ruling to make a secondary staircase compulsory in new residential tower blocks.
It is understood the scheme could mean up to £34.5 million annually for the local economy.
