Morgan Sindall recently ‘topped out’ a new school in Derby using alternative construction methods.

The firm started work on Oak Grange Primary School in August last year and recently completed its external structure and roof.

The project was procured via the SCAPE Regional Construction Framework and is part of the Derby Schools Programme.

It is also part of the Snelsmoor Grange housing developments, The Meadows and Holbrook Grange.

Combined with another development in Chellaston, the school is being built to support an additional 990 homes in the area.

Lungfish Architects designed the school to be in keeping with its agricultural surroundings.

Morgan managed to save 14.78 tonnes of carbon dioxide through alternative construction methods, the equivalent of heating five homes annually.

Oak Grange is now the fifth school Morgan has delivered in partnership with Lungfish as the principal designer.

The school is expected to open in September.
