The firm was appointed to the St Peter’s Hospital project by Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, via the Southern Construction Framework.

The new mental health inpatient unit, part of the Northwest Hospital scheme, will be built on the site of the former Abraham Cowley Unit.

The existing buildings will be demolished and replaced by a modern facility with 64 bedrooms and en-suites.

Communal areas, assisted bathrooms and support rooms, as well as therapeutic gardens and external courtyards are also planned.

“We have a growing portfolio of high-quality mental health facilities around the country, and this new hospital will only add to that track record,” said Laura Hodgetts, health director for Galliford Try. “By applying the learning from all our mental health schemes, we can ensure that it meets the needs of service users and clinical staff and becomes another beacon for best practice in the sector.”
