Leicestershire County Cricket Club is in talks with developers and stakeholders about the multi-million-pound transformation of Uptonsteel County Ground, which could include new homes.

A spokesperson told Construction Wave the club is yet to confirm which developers will lead the scheme – however they did say that local architects Maber will design the new stadium.

They also said the Local Authority is “fully onboard” with the ambitious plans and that a working party will be formed in the next couple of weeks.

A construction partner is yet to be appointed.

The stadium transformation plans include building new homes, a healthcare centre and retail space for the community, revealed chief executive, Sean Jarvis.

A new Academy of Cricket offering “the world’s first MBA in cricket management” is also part of the club’s vision, it said.

The growth plan could raise spectator capacity from 6,000 to 10,000, wrote Business Live.

“The club has been working extensively with architects, research consultants and financial bodies to produce design specifications that have the scope to transform the existing stadium and create new facilities for the surrounding community,” said the club.

A planning application will follow the formation of a working party.
