Kier will deliver a new £25 million net-zero carbon teaching block in south Wales.

The firm was appointed to the Hawthorn All-Through School in Pontypridd by Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council, via the SEWSCAP framework.
Three existing buildings will be demolished for the new teaching block. Stone from one Victorian building will be used in the construction of the new facility.

A new car park, pick up/drop off spaces, and a designated bus zone will also be built.
Design
Net-zero carbon in operation through renewable energy sources, such as air source heat pumps and photovoltaic panels alongside purchase of renewable electricity.
“This project presents a unique opportunity to provide not one but three schools with state-of-the-art facilities which will be a significant asset to the community of Pontypridd for generations to come,” said Jason Taylor, regional director at Kier Construction Western & Wales.
Work is expected to complete in 2025.
