The firm was appointed main contractor to the Net Zero Industry Innovation Centre (NZIIC) by Teesside University, as part of a wider campus masterplan valued at more than £280 million.
Tees Valley Combined Authority and the European Regional Development Fund contributed £5.2 million to the scheme based at the Tees Valley Net Zero Innovation Hub.
A zero-waste initiative, reduced carbon footprint, use of recyclable materials and living roof are among the scheme’s sustainable building standards.
The NZIIC will drive delivery of net zero targets for the UK and be a “national centre of excellence” for net zero technologies, creating hundreds of clean energy jobs.
“Teesside University will use this facility to position the region as a leader in the UK’s green revolution and we are honoured to have been its construction partner of choice,” said Garry Hope, regional managing director, Robertson Construction North East.
