Property developer St. Modwen will deliver its new Castle Donington development after the Planning Inspectorate found in its favour.

The scheme proposes up to 92,500 sqm of storage and distribution and mixed industrial units within 120 acres, on land south of Junction 1 of the A50.

There will also be service yards and parking, and new accesses from Trent Lane, Station Road and Ryecroft Road.

The scheme was submitted in 2019 on grounds it would meet ‘immediate warehousing and jobs demands’ but was rejected by North West Leicestershire District Council (NWLDC) following local pushback.

However, the Planning Inspectorate recently determined at appeal that due to established networks in the area, the scheme “would be well integrated with existing development in the locality”.

Up to £80 million will be contributed annually to the regional economy, according to St Modwen.

Tenders are expected shortly.
