Lendlease is partnering with Birmingham City Council on the regeneration of Smithfield to create a major mixed-use development.

The scheme’s centrepiece includes a new square for the city’s historic Bull Ring markets – which have operated for more than 200 years – with a rooftop garden and dining hall.

Lendlease envisions a new “business hub” for the city, spanning more than 1,000,000 sq ft.

A new events space called Festival Square, designed by James Corner Field Operations, is also proposed.

Lendlease will also deliver 600 new homes in Phase One of the scheme, with 3,000 more over the coming years, including affordable.

New green spaces, and walking and cycling routes are also planned.

Smithfield hosted several events during the Commonwealth Games, and the Smithfield Festival.
