Mace wins £150m life sciences centre for healthcare giant

Mace will deliver a £150 million life sciences centre in London for a global healthcare giant.

The firm has been appointed main contractor by Precis Group for the new MSD (Merck & Co) UK headquarters on Euston Road.  

The specialised life sciences facility within Belgrove House is expected to create more than 1,000 construction jobs.  

The facility will be used for breakthrough research on diseases of ageing and human biology to discover new life-saving medicines.  

The development, located in the capital’s ‘Knowledge Quarter’, opposite King’s Cross Square and St. Pancras International, will be home to around 850 clinical researchers and office staff.  

It will span 10 storeys and 180,000 sq ft.  

It also includes: 

  • An education and outreach centre 
  • A publicly accessible auditorium 
  • An educational outreach programme with Camden STEAM 

A new step-free entrance for King’s Cross station is also planned. 

Design  

  • Allford Hall Monaghan Morris (AHMM) 

It will use sustainable materials and includes an innovative double-skin façade to reduce solar gain, said Mace.  

Construction will begin in April, with completion expected end of 2025. 

The firm has also recently been appointed main contractor for the full refurbishment of the landmark Woolgate Exchange by Stanhope.
