Kier to deliver £65m high school in Scotland

Kier will deliver a new secondary school in Scotland valued at £65 million.

The firm was selected to build the new Currie Community High School by the City of Edinburgh Council, procured via the Crown Commercial Services framework. 

  • three floors of teaching blocks 
  • sports and leisure facilities 
  • swimming pool 
  • café 

There will also be a community hub, outdoor play spaces, a sensory garden, and public allotments. 

The high school will be one of the first in Scotland built to Passivhaus standard, which could reduce its total energy use by 70%. 

What is Passivhaus?

Passivhaus refers to builds created to rigorous energy efficient design standards, so they maintain an almost constant temperature.

The firm broke ground 20 January. Completion is expected early 2025. 

The scheme is one in the first phase of the Scottish Government’s £2 billion Learning Estate Investment Programme.
