Costain won its first commission with Heathrow via the Major Project Partner lot of the H7 framework and will lead the initial £35 million design phase of improvements to baggage handling facilities and systems at T2.
Heathrow is planning a wider £3.6 billion capital investment programme for the airport over the next five years, to improve customer experience, meet its net-zero objective, and in response to the commercial impact of the pandemic.
Costain will use digital processes and systems (digital rehearsals and building information modelling), to enable cost and carbon savings.
“We will work with Heathrow throughout the project lifecycle to shape, create and deliver asset renewal and construction projects,” said Costain.
“I am delighted that our construction, consulting and digital experts have been selected to help Heathrow transform its performance,” said Sue Kershaw, managing director for transportation at Costain.
Costain will provide construction, consulting and digital capabilities over the next four years.
