The group’s construction arm, Monte Blackburn Limited has been granted approval for the major scheme in Colne, after the Planning Inspectorate reviewed its proposal to Pendle Borough Council.
Inside the deal: The scheme, backed by EG founders and businessmen Mohsin and Zuber Issa, will see a 8.6-acre site off Whitewalls Drive redeveloped in the spring. EG Group owns Britain’s third largest supermarket, Asda.
The Colne scheme:
- A petrol station and forecourt
- A carwash
- A convenience shop
- A drive-thru coffee shop
- Two new industrial units
It is understood the scheme will create around 120 jobs for the area, not including construction and supply chain.
“We are presently developing the detailed design,” said project manager, Alex Kenwright. “We intend to start working with stakeholders to ensure the scheme is a success and plan to begin construction in the spring of next year.”
EG Group was approached for further comment about partnerships and social value aspirations.
