Inside the deal: The Newcastle-under-Lyme manufacturing firm, Ham Baker engineers products for the water industry.

Galliford Try recently bought its asset inspection, maintenance and screens and distributor operations, represented across a team of 40.

The firm will use these new capabilities to “develop a low-carbon engineering offering” – enabling the reuse of products and raw materials, thus reducing waste.

The buy will also help Galliford Try prepare for the water industry’s AMP8 cycle, in particular addressing storm overflow challenges and decarbonisation.

AMP8 goals for water companies

  • net zero by 2030
  • reduce sewage spills
  • mitigate Climate Change

The deal reflects the “key role” Galliford Try’s Environment business is playing in its Sustainable Growth Strategy, it said.

The team of 40 will continue to operate from the Ham Baker premises in Stoke-on-Trent.

“We are delighted with this acquisition which bolsters our position as a leading service provider to the water sector, with a growing capability in off-site build, capital maintenance and asset optimisation, following the acquisitions of NMCN Water, Lintott and MCS Control Systems in the last 18 months,” said Galliford Try CEO, Bill Hocking.

“The evolution of our business means we are uniquely positioned to help our clients deliver the UK’s water needs through the improved resilience, efficiency and optimisation of their assets.”
